What is 润学 (runxue) and is it still a real movement?▾
润 (run) is a homophone for “leaving” and 润学 (runxue) literally means “the study of emigration.” It peaked in May 2022 when WeChat recorded over 100 million searches for “emigration” in a single day during the Shanghai lockdown. Can Chinese citizens still buy property abroad legally?▾
Yes — but inside the US$50,000 annual FX quota, and not using the declared purpose of overseas property purchase. Most lawful pathways rely on existing offshore income, Hong Kong permanent residency, family pooling, or staged transfers over multiple years. How did Japan’s October 2025 Business Manager visa reform change the calculation?▾
Effective October 16, 2025, Japan’s Business Manager visa raised the minimum paid-in capital from ¥5M to ¥30M (six-fold increase), required at least one full-time Japanese/PR employee, and added either three years of management experience or a master’s degree.
