- LGBTQ+ safety
- Famous for being extremely tolerant and welcoming. Same-sex marriage became legal in January 2025 via the Marriage Equality Act, making Thailand the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize it.
- Driving & licensing
- Drives on the left. Extremely dangerous roads statistically (particularly for motorbikes). Converting a foreign license to a Thai one is a simple administrative process.
- Healthcare system
- A massive, ultra-high-quality private medical tourism sector that is entirely out-of-pocket (or via private insurance) for expats. Costs are extremely reasonable vs the US.
- Walkability & transit
- Bangkok has major transit lines (BTS/MRT) but horrific traffic and brutal walkability due to heat and lack of sidewalks. Most expats rely heavily on Grab/Bolt.
