- LGBTQ+ safety
- Homosexuality is technically illegal under both civil and Sharia law. Enforcement is rare in urban areas, but discretion is strongly advised. Not an LGBTQ+-friendly destination legally.
- Driving & licensing
- Drives on the left. Foreign licenses with an IDP are valid for up to 1 year. Converting to a Malaysian license is straightforward. Driving is aggressive, especially in KL.
- Healthcare system
- A dual public/private system. Public healthcare is extremely cheap (RM 1 per visit) but crowded. Private hospitals are world-class, modern, and still very affordable by Western standards.
- Walkability & transit
- KL has good transit (LRT, MRT, Monorail, KTM) in the city center, but suburban sprawl is vast and car-centric. Grab is ubiquitous and extremely cheap.
