Safety
Generally safe. Snatch theft (motorcyclists grabbing bags/phones) is the main concern — carry bags on the building side. Some areas (Chow Kit) are rougher at night. Overall, much safer than comparable-sized cities.
Healthcare
Malaysia is a major medical tourism destination. Gleneagles, Prince Court Medical Centre, and Sunway Medical are world-class and affordable. A specialist visit costs $15-30. Dental work is 50-70% cheaper than the West.
Internet & Connectivity
Excellent. TIME, Unifi (TM), and Maxis offer fiber at 100-500 Mbps for $25-40/mo. Malaysia has some of the best broadband value in Asia. Mobile data is very cheap — unlimited plans for $10-15/mo.
Coworking
Growing rapidly. Common Ground, WeWork, and WORQ are the main chains. Many affordable independent spaces. $80-150/mo for hot desks. The cafe culture is strong — VCR, Feeka, and Bean Brothers are nomad favorites.
Food & Dining
One of the world's great food cities. Jalan Alor (Bukit Bintang) for street food — hokkien mee, satay, char kway teow. Village Park for the best nasi lemak. Restoran Rebung for Malay buffet. Indian food in Brickfields is outstanding. Bangsar has excellent modern Malaysian restaurants. The hawker stalls in PJ (Petaling Jaya) are where locals eat — consistently incredible.
Climate Notes
Equatorial — hot and humid year-round (30-34°C). Afternoon thunderstorms are nearly daily but brief. No seasons to speak of. Malls are the social refuge from the heat. AC everywhere.
