Safety
One of the safest capitals in Europe. Pickpocketing on tram 28 and in Baixa is the main concern. Violent crime is exceptionally rare.
Healthcare
Public healthcare (SNS) is free for residents but chronically underfunded — expect long waits for non-urgent care. Most expats use private insurance (EUR 50-100/mo) and clinics like CUF or Luz Saude.
Internet & Connectivity
Fibre coverage is excellent across the city, averaging 100-500 Mbps. NOS and MEO are the main providers. Cafe WiFi is reliable in expat-heavy areas.
Coworking
Thriving. Second Home, Heden, and Outsite are popular with nomads. Factory Lisbon and Lx Factory area host startup events. Expect EUR 150-250/mo for a hot desk.
Food & Dining
Pastel de nata from Manteigaria (not Pasteis de Belem — shorter queue, equally good). Mercado da Ribeira (Time Out Market) is touristy but genuinely excellent. Cervejaria Ramiro for seafood. O Velho Eurico in Alfama for cheap, authentic petiscos.
Climate Notes
300+ days of sunshine with mild winters (10-15°C) and warm, dry summers (28-35°C). Atlantic breezes keep it cooler than Madrid or Seville. Rain concentrates in November-February.
