Safety
Generally safe in expat neighborhoods. Petty theft and phone snatching are the main risks. Avoid flashing expensive electronics on the metro. Uber is strongly preferred over street taxis, especially at night.
Healthcare
World-class private healthcare at a fraction of US/EU prices. Hospital Angeles, ABC Medical Center, and Medica Sur are top-tier. A specialist visit costs $40-80 USD. Dental tourism is huge. Public IMSS is available but overwhelmed.
Internet & Connectivity
Fiber is expanding rapidly. Totalplay and Izzi offer 100-500 Mbps plans for $25-40/mo. Coffee shop WiFi in Roma/Condesa is generally reliable. Telmex still dominates but is slower.
Coworking
Massive. WeWork, IOS Offices, Selina, and dozens of independent spaces. Homework (Roma Norte) and Centraal are popular with nomads. $100-200/mo for hot desks.
Food & Dining
The world's greatest street food city. Tacos al pastor at El Vilsito (a mechanic shop by day), churros at El Moro, tlacoyos at Mercado de Coyoacan, pozole at Fonda Margarita. Fine dining: Pujol and Quintonil are world-ranked. Mercado Roma for upscale food hall experience.
Climate Notes
Eternal spring at 2,240m elevation — daily highs of 20-27°C year-round. Rainy season (June-October) brings dramatic afternoon thunderstorms that clear within hours. Never humid, rarely cold. Occasional air quality alerts in winter.
