About British School of Bucharest
Through the National Curriculum for England, our students are exposed to many innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) opportunities. These provide invaluable practical experiences that nourish the skills of creativity, flexibility and collaboration and help our students prepare for the future workplace – for jobs that may not currently exist. The school’s loyal and experienced native English-speaking teachers, working within a British-Curriculum school, plan practical, high-quality and child-centred lessons focused on active learning where a culture of mutual respect and support is valued along with high achievement.

We are supported in the SEN Department by an Educational Psychologist aiding provision for pupils with behavioural, emotional and social development needs. Such expertise provides teachers and parents with necessary guidelines, supporting students in and out of the classroom as well as providing individual counselling for students and parents if required. With respect to other cognition and learning needs, our SEN Department provides teachers with guidance to adapt lessons to specific needs and individual support guidelines through the development of Individual Educational Plans followed by regular review, with several targeted support sessions within Primary and Secondary. This type of support takes place as often as possible via in-class support rather than withdrawing students from their lessons. We also liaise with external agencies such as speech therapists for communication and interaction needs. The SEN Department organises access arrangements with external examination boards to provide students with appropriate support at this time, whether that be with extra time in examinations, a reader, a scribe or other provision based on the student’s needs. In some cases, the school has developed a parallel syllabus for students whose needs were more acute enabling continued mainstream schooling, but with an adapted curriculum.
The SEN Department reflects the school aims of valuing everyone equally and providing opportunities for all students to: fulfil their potential, develop confidence and self-esteem, enjoy and value learning, develop personal responsibility and respect. The fundamental objective of the SEN Department at BSB is to provide a support framework for students requiring assistance with learning. The SEN Department supports students with: learning difficulties; medical issues; behavioural and emotional difficulties.
