The college was first established in November 1974 formerly known as Sixth Form Centre and was located at Paduka Seri Begawan Malay College, Jalan Muara, Brunei Darussalam. It moved to the current campus in 1979, renamed as Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah on 17th April 1986 by the Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah; and now it is fondly known as 'Maktab Duli'. The college is a premier public co-ed higher learning institution catering specifically for students pursuing their pre-university education leading to AS and A-level examinations.
