About European International School of Barcelona
At European International School of Barcelona, we believe education is about much more than academic results – it is about helping each child grow into the best version of themselves. Founded in 1996 by a group of passionate educators led by the Herranz-Frías family, our school was created as a space where students could develop academically, personally and socially in a supportive and inspiring environment. We are an independent international school with a strong humanistic and ecological ethos and a clear commitment to educating responsible, curious and confident young people.

The International Homeroom is an immersion-based language support programme, comparable to EAL (English as an Additional Language), for newly arrived Primary and Secondary students aged 6–16. Its aim is to support students in fully integrating into mainstream classes through gradual and structured language development. Through a comprehensive Language Development programme in Spanish and Catalan, students progress through clearly defined stages towards full classroom immersion. Throughout the process, they develop both everyday communication skills (BICS) and the academic language required for learning (CALP) at their own pace. Instructional time is adapted to individual needs to ensure that all students ultimately meet the language expectations set by the school curriculum.
